Tank Lighting

Let Ascher Industrial Maintenance light up your water tower. Get some extra publicity and notoriety for your county or city. The process of running electrical service and installing LED lighting to illuminate the logo on the side of an elevated water tank must be carefully planned and executed to ensure safety, durability, and full compliance with applicable building and electrical codes. The typical process includes the following steps:

   1. Design and Code Review – Develop a lighting and electrical design that defines fixture type, wattage, beam spread, mounting locations, and control systems. Review the design for compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), local building codes, wind-load requirements, and owner specifications.

2. Permitting and Coordination – Obtain all required electrical and building permits and coordinate work with the owner, utility provider, and inspection authorities. Establish lockout/tagout and safety procedures for work at height.

 3. Power Source and Routing – Identify and verify the power source, then route conduit from the service panel to the tank using approved, weather-resistant conduit and fittings. All conduit is securely fastened and protected against mechanical damage, corrosion, and environmental exposure.

4. Wiring Installation – Pull appropriately rated conductors through conduit, sized according to load calculations and voltage drop requirements. All wiring is grounded and bonded in accordance with NEC standards to ensure electrical safety.

5. Fixture Mounting – Install LED lighting fixtures using engineered mounting brackets or supports designed to withstand wind, vibration, and structural movement without compromising the tank coating or structure.

  6. Connections and Sealing – Make all electrical terminations using listed connectors and enclosures. Seal penetrations and junction boxes to maintain weatherproofing and prevent moisture intrusion.

7. Testing and Aiming – Energize the system and test all circuits, controls, and fixtures. Adjust fixture aim and light distribution to evenly illuminate the logo while minimizing glare, light spill, and energy consumption.

 8. Inspection and Approval – Complete required electrical and building inspections to verify code compliance. Address any deficiencies identified by inspectors.

9. Documentation and Training – Provide as-built drawings, load calculations, and maintenance documentation, and review system operation and maintenance requirements with the owner. Following this process ensures the LED lighting system is safely installed, code-compliant, energy-efficient, and effective in highlighting the water tank logo.
